Easy Tiger by Ryan Adams (Lost Highway)
Themes of aging predominate on the profligately prolific
Ryan Adams’ new one, Easy Tiger, which
may well be his best collection since solo debut Heartbreaker.
‘Tears of Gold’, ‘The Sun Also Sets’
and ‘I Taught Myself How To Grow Old’
all reflect ruefully on experience, while the raucous
‘Halloweenhead’ is a laugh. With shared
songwriting credits, this is very much a band affair,
The Cardinals recalling…uh…The Band, united
by the newly sober Adams’ resonant vocals, sounding
sometimes like After The Goldrush period
Neil Young, and on ‘Rip Off’ uncannily
like Nashville Skyline period Dylan.
