Best of by Creedence Clearwater Revival (Universal)

If you are unfortunate enough never to have sampled the barn stomping delights of CCR in an extended fashion, perhaps snobbishly dismissing them as rudimentary wannabe thrashers, this 24 track compilation, which deftly showcases the band’s concise synthesis of rockabilly, swamp pop, R&B and country – a return to roots they played out against a backdrop of the more indulgent tendencies of late ’60s San Franciscan flower power – should sort you out. Considering that Creedence’s true forte was as a singles band, their albums containing a degree of filler, this is an ideal career trawl for committed fans and curious newcomers alike.
